Legal Policies
The Vice Chancellor has authorised a number of legal polices designed to:
- ensure that the University's legal risk is appropriately managed
- facilitate the way in which the University in general and you, its staff,
in particular enter into business transactions; and
- maximise the value that the University derives from its use of external
lawyers.
The following policies apply to all areas of the University:
Using External Lawyers
This policy stipulates that only the General Counsel (or his/her delegate)
has authority to refer work to external lawyers on behalf of the University
and its related companies. It also covers the terms on which such engagements
will be made.
Signing contracts & other legal documents
In order to manage its legal risk, the University requires that all staff must
obtain a legal sign-off from the General Counsel (or his/her delegate) prior
to signing or otherwise committing the University to any contract or other legally
binding obligation.
Reporting Claims
This policy requires all staff to advise the General Counsel as soon as possible
after becoming aware of a threatened or actual legal claim against the University.
Exclusion Orders
The University has established a process for dealing with conduct that may
require an order excluding a person from campus.
